Revive Adserver v6.0 released

Revive Adserver v6.0 was released on October 22, 2025.

The main goal of the Revive Adserver developers was to ensure compatibility with the most recent versions of the PHP programming language, which is at the core of the Revive Adserver software. This has been a major undertaking, because a lot has changed and improved in the PHP language and environment, bringing several non-backward compatibility issues. But the main advantage lies in performance improvements and the potential for new and improved functionality because of enhancement in the language.

Security fixes
Revive Adserver v6.0 also included a fix for a low risk security issue. Following its release, the Revive Adserver developers received a number of additional reports from security researchers, which resulted in the subsequent publication of several additional releases. They also took advantage of these follow up releases by fixing a couple of smaller regular bugs, and to introduce some additional improvements and enhancements.

New in Revive Adserver v6.0
In addition to compatibility with modern PHP versions, there are several functional improvements and enhancements, including:

• a loading animation when the next screen is taking some time to load, so that users are aware that the application is still working and a little patience is required.
• an optional banner file size limit to the banners storage settings, which will help avoid accidentally uploading extremely large banner images.
• a warning message in the banner edit screen when non-HTTPS assets are used, which would cause the banner to be ineligible for delivery on HTTPS pages.
• a massive performance improvement in the Global Statistics screen, especially when requesting statistics for longer date ranges like “last month” or “last year”. The effect can be that a report that previously took more than a minute to complete will now appear in less than 5 seconds.
• support for uploading the AVIF image file format in banners.

Update schedule
Following the release of this new version in October 2025, we’ve worked on a comprehensive testing program to ensure the new version runs reliably on our platform and maintains our high performance standards. We also took advantage of the new compatibility with PHP 8.1 – 8.5 to undertake a comprehensive program to update our entire ad serving platform to this new level. Meanwhile, we worked closely with the Revive Adserver development team to develop, test, and validate the fixes for all of the security fixes that are contained in the v6.0.0 to v6.0.5 releases.

Now that v6.0.5 is available and the platform work has been completed, we created an update schedule for all dedicated Revive Adserver instances we host for our customers, and for our Aqua Ad Server system. The tentative plan is to update all of the systems we host to the new version 6.0 of the Revive Adserver software before the end of February 2026. It will be a phased approach, all the while closely monitoring platform performance, stability, reliability and functionality.

Users will be made aware that their system has been updated by a note in the header bar of the ad management console, saying “Now v6.0” which will link to this blog post.

During the update from the current to the new Revive Adserver version, the ad management consoles will briefly display a “Scheduled maintenance” screen. The delivery of ads and the collection of delivery statistics will continue during this time.
